The Active Mobility Forum promotes walking, cycling, micromobility and universal access in Cape Town, Johannesburg and beyond. Founded in 2022 through a partnership between Cape Town’s Bicycle Mayor, Sindile Mavundla, and Young Urbanists, AMF brings together people, organisations and partners working to improve how South Africans move through cities.
AMF exists because walking, cycling and other affordable ways of moving are still treated as secondary in many South African cities. Streets are often planned around private cars, even though millions of people rely on walking, public transport and informal mobility every day. This affects safety, access, dignity and the cost of moving through the city.
Our work connects research, public advocacy, policy engagement and practical street projects. We work with communities, government, civil society and private partners to push for safer infrastructure, better public investment and streets that work for more people.

Becoming a member helps AMF build a stronger public base behind this work. Membership gives you a simple way to stay connected, support campaigns, take part in events and help grow the movement for safer, healthier and more accessible streets in South Africa.
Your support helps AMF keep organising, advocating and working with partners to improve walking, cycling, micromobility and public transport access. It also helps us keep active mobility visible in public debate, policy processes and real street projects.
Membership is for anyone who wants streets that work better for people. You do not need to be a cyclist or transport expert to join. You might walk, use public transport, ride a bike, care about safer crossings, support universal access, or simply want cities that are easier and safer to move through.
You can join for free, contribute monthly, or sign up as a family, organisation or partner. Choose the membership option that works for you and help AMF keep building the public voice for active mobility in South Africa. Alternatively, if you want make a once off donation, you can make one here.
